Am I Too Young for a Facelift?

It’s never too early to start thinking about the health of your skin. After all, the signs of aging can start showing themselves as early as the mid-20s — and they’re only going to get worse from there. While moisturizers, creams, hyaluronic acid, and retinol can stave off these minor changes for a while, eventually, you might start considering a facelift to truly revitalize your look. But how young is too young for a facelift?

The Ideal Facelift Age

Generally, the ideal age for a facelift is in the mid-40s to mid-50s. This is the best time because the skin is still young enough to heal well, but also damaged enough to benefit from surgical enhancement. A facelift in the 40s or 50s can fix sagging jowls, facial wrinkles and creases, and even skin laxity in the mid-face.

If patients wait longer than this, they may find that their skin doesn’t heal as well after the procedure. Their skin may also be too saggy or wrinkled to get the results they desire.

But what if a patient wants to get a facelift before the mid-40s? While it is possible, it’s not usually recommended. In most cases, patients simply don’t have enough skin damage to warrant a full facelift. They’d benefit more from less invasive procedures that target specific problem areas.

That being said, every patient is different, and for people in the Houston area with extreme sun damage, poor genetics, or other conditions which have prematurely aged the face, a facelift could be a great option even in your 30s. The only way to know for sure is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Yarish and Dr. Bartlett at our Houston office, as they’ll be able to take a look at your face and provide you with a personalized treatment recommendation.

Alternatives for Younger Patients

If you are too young for a facelift, there are plenty of other treatments that can give you a mini touch-up. For example, patients who are disappointed with the sagging of their face may see great benefits from dermal fillers. These are injectable solutions that plump up the face to fill in hollowed cheeks or shriveled lips.

If wrinkles are more of a concern, Botox is a great option for smoothing out your face and getting rid of telltale frown lines. It paralyzes select facial muscles to help them relax, preventing your skin from pulling tight.

Microneedling is another option, and it works by puncturing the skin to stimulate the production of collagen. This can improve the texture of the skin while also reducing any scars or other disfigurements.

We also offer FaceTite, a non-invasive contouring treatment that can achieve similar results to a facelift. FaceTite uses radiofrequency energy to tighten your skin, stimulate collagen growth and firm the facial tissues.
