Facelift in Houston, TX

Time can significantly affect one’s facial appearance, and the dry, sometimes stifling heat in Houston doesn’t help. With age and sun exposure comes sagging skin, fine lines, wrinkles, and deep folds that cause individuals to look tired and older than they feel.

At Town and Country Plastic Surgeons and Medspa, we offer a wide variety of surgical and non-surgical rejuvenating facial procedures in Houston and Lake Houston, Texas, including facelift surgery (rhytidectomy).

Our highly skilled and board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. R. Scott Yarish and Dr. Erica Bartlett, provide customized surgical treatment plans to meet the needs of individuals who want to turn back the clock and achieve natural-looking youthfulness in their faces and necks.

Our surgeons deeply understand the fundamental nature of beauty, how it’s perceived, and how it affects us. By combining the art and science of plastic surgery with a personal and gentle touch, they can deliver long-lasting, natural facelift results for our Houston and Lake Jackson patients.

Am I a Candidate for a Facelift?

Adult men and women of any age can undergo a facelift, provided they are in good overall health. Most individuals seek facelift surgery to correct these tell-tale signs of aging:

  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Sagging skin
  • Volume loss in the cheeks
  • Hanging jowls

Many of these signs of aging become prominent between the late 40s and the 60s. We’ve also performed facelift surgery on healthy patients in their 70s and 80s.

However, some men and women choose to undergo facelift surgery in their early-to-mid 40s. This is a little less common now because younger people with age-related facial concerns in the Houston area often select other options, like FaceTite® or non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments, such as dermal fillers and BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® injections.

Whatever your age, if you feel your face has aged prematurely or are now ready for a surgical solution, a facelift may be the answer for you.

Facelift eligibility requirements include the following:

  • Overall good health
  • Non-smoker
  • Have access to a caregiver for a few days after surgery
  • Ability to closely follow our surgeon’s pre- and post-operative instructions
  • Sufficient time to rest during recovery

Smokers and those who use other nicotine products must quit four weeks before this procedure and abstain for another two to four weeks after. Alcohol consumption must also be limited.

Our patients’ overall health and well-being are our top priorities, so we must ensure that you are healthy enough to have elective surgery and that nothing will interfere with optimal healing.

The best way to determine whether a facelift is right for you is by scheduling an in-depth consultation. Our doctors will review your medical history and examine your face and neck to assess your eligibility for surgery.

Dr. Yarish or Dr. Bartlett will listen carefully to your concerns and goals to devise a strategic treatment plan that safely and effectively provides the cosmetic results you desire.

What Are My Houston Facelift Options?

Facelift surgery is known as a rhytidectomy in the world of medicine. It is a plastic surgery procedure used to improve the visible signs of facial aging by lifting and tightening tissues and skin that are beginning to sag or have worsened over the years.

A mini-facelift or a standard facelift may be performed, depending on your needs. The condition of your skin, the amount of volume loss, and your desired results will determine which technique is best for you.

Comprehensive Facelift Options

Many people believe that a facelift addresses all facial features. However, this cosmetic procedure only targets the mid-to-lower half of the face, from the cheeks down.

While some patients opt for a facelift only, other complementary facial procedures can be added:

Comprehensive Rejuvenation Concept

At Town and Country Plastic Surgeons, we believe that skin and body rejuvenation is an evolutionary process that does not begin or end with the surgery itself. Many of our patients choose Town and Country Plastic Surgeons because of our excellent reputation and “comprehensive rejuvenation concept.”

Designed to enhance your experience and results, the “comprehensive rejuvenation concept” is an individualized before-and-after treatment plan tailored for the specific procedure being performed. This approach better prepares the skin and body for surgery and aids in the healing process.

The comprehensive rejuvenation process for facelift surgery usually begins with a skin evaluation and microdermabrasion treatment. A personalized skin care regimen starts two weeks before your procedure and continues for four to six weeks after.

If you choose this option, you will have weekly visits with our aestheticians for lymphatic massage and ultrasound treatments after your procedure. These painless treatments help reduce bruising, swelling, and inflammation and improve how you feel after surgery while maximizing your facelift results.

If you have the time to take advantage of our “comprehensive rejuvenation concept,” you can look forward to a more relaxing, unique, and gratifying facelift experience.

Regardless of the option you choose, rest assured that our surgeons can produce the excellent results you want.

What Techniques Will Be Used for My Facelift?

Depending on the options you choose for your facelift, the following techniques may be used during surgery:

  • By gently lifting, tightening, and manipulating the underlying soft tissue, then carefully removing excess skin, our doctors can smooth deep folds, lines, and wrinkles around the cheeks and mouth and restore volume.
  • The standard facelift option includes all these techniques, while mini facelifts performed by our Town and Country Plastic Surgeons are customized to address the specific concerns of our patients.

How Is a Facelift Performed?

Anesthesia

A standard facelift requires general anesthesia, but you may only need a local anesthetic and sedation for a mini facelift.

We employ a licensed and experienced anesthesiologist at our upscale surgery center among our other compassionate and helpful staff members at Town and Country Plastic Surgeons.

Length of Procedure

Standard facelift surgery may take between three and six hours to complete, while a mini facelift can take less than two.

Incisions and Scarring

Our Town and Country Plastic Surgeons are masters at minimizing scar visibility, and incisions are typically made within the hairline surrounding the face, behind the ears, or inside the mouth.

After your surgery, incisions can be treated with our proprietary scar cream, silicone taping, or laser therapy to promote optimal healing and scar fading.

Town and Country Plastic Surgeons’ Unmatched Facelift Care

Our doctors’ commitment to your surgical treatments and aftercare makes our facelift procedures among the best in Houston, Texas.

You will receive high-quality care and ample time in our recovery area before being driven home by a friend or family member.

Town and Country Plastic Surgeons also offer continuous care with our full-service overnight stay option for our Houston, Texas, facelift patients who need or want additional observation.

Our surgeons might recommend an overnight stay due to an existing medical issue, the extent of surgery, or a lack of available help at home. The overnight stay option is also available for our patients who desire an upgraded level of care or enhanced personal comfort.

Our staff will assist you with a hair wash and incision care the morning after surgery.

What Is the Recovery From a Facelift Like?

Before even entering the operating room, Dr. Yarish and Dr. Bartlett take the time to speak with their patients about facelift surgery recovery, review what they can expect, answer all their questions, and ensure they are ready for the procedure.

Facelift recovery is typically not difficult, and following your surgeon’s instructions and the tips listed below can make your recovery process very smooth.

Before Your Facelift:

  • Arrange for someone to drive you home and stay with you for a few days to help care for you.
  • Stock up on healthy, reheatable, well-balanced, and high-protein meals you can enjoy easily during your recovery.
  • Fill your prescription medications our doctors provide at your pre-op appointment before your surgery date.
  • Allow seven to 14 days of free time to allow for proper healing.
  • Take slow, short, and gentle walks frequently during early recovery to facilitate healing and avoid complications.

After Your Facelift:

Before you’re released, your doctor will check in on you to see how you are doing, and we will send you home with facial dressings. The bandages must remain in place until you see your doctor the following morning.

During your follow-up visit, we will:

  • Wash your hair
  • Clean your incisions
  • Provide a new, small elastic dressing that helps reduce swelling before you return home.

Ultrasound and lymphatic massage treatments, at our medical spa, are included in your surgery package to facilitate healing. If you follow your aftercare instructions, your recovery should be very smooth.

You will be allowed to shower but must continue to wear the elastic bandage around the clock for seven days.

You will still feel sleepy and groggy the day after your facelift surgery and may experience swelling and mild discomfort in the first few days following your surgery. To reduce pain, take prescribed medication on the recommended schedule.

Most patients can return to sedentary jobs within two weeks, while more demanding occupations may require more time. Minor swelling and bruising may still be present but are easily camouflaged with makeup.

How Much Is Facelift Surgery in Houston?

Because you have various facelift options, your cost will be determined before your consultation with Dr. Yarish or Dr. Bartlett is complete.

FAQs

Are facelift results permanent?

Houston and Lake Jackson patients who undergo facelift surgery with Dr. Yarish or Dr. Bartlett typically see their results last 10 years or more. However, while our facelifts provide dramatic results, no facelift technique can prevent time and aging from moving forward. Our doctors take every step to ensure the longest-lasting results possible, including making the most beneficial skin care treatment recommendations according to their patient’s skin type and complexion requirements.

Avoid sun exposure, smoking, and drug or alcohol abuse, as these can accelerate aging. Genetics also plays a part (and is hard to control), so work with what you can!

Does a facelift leave behind scars?

Dr. Yarish and Dr. Bartlett make incisions in inconspicuous areas to leave hard-to-detect, subtle scars that fade nicely over the following year. Again, be careful to protect your face and the rest of your body from the sun and other things that may hinder the scar-healing process and shorten the longevity of your results.

What are the risks involved with a facelift?

Like any surgery, a facelift comes with some risks, including injury to your nerves, which could lead to a loss of sensation in the face, scarring, or bleeding. Closely following pre-and post-surgical instructions will lead to the best and fastest healing.
