About Breast Revision

Breast revision surgery is a procedure that requires a skilled physician knowledgeable in addressing changes in the breast from previous surgeries. It is important that the results are natural in appearance, meet the patients’ preference and are performed to minimize the possibility of future complications. Our doctors will perform a thorough consultation with you to determine the source of the current problem and to develop a plan for revision. There are a number of types of breast revision surgeries that can be performed, and a customized surgical plan will be created for you.

Ruptured Implants

A rupture can occur in both saline and silicone implants. This can happen when the implant develops a leak. While the patient’s health is not in danger from a leaking implant, it can affect the appearance of the breasts. There are several options available to Houston and Lake Jackson patients to remedy the situation. An implant like the original can replace it or patients can choose another implant option. Some patients may wish to have both implants removed, while others may prefer a different technique for breast augmentation. These options can be discussed during your consultation.

Capsular contracture is an unfortunate risk with breast augmentation. Patients can develop this complication within the first year after augmentation and can even happen years out. Capsular contracture is thought to occur due to the introduction of bacteria around the implant. This causes scar tissue to develop around the implant which results in an unnatural appearance and distortion of the breast. Sometimes this can be a painful condition, but our doctors can skillfully correct this to create maximum results and minimal downtime.

Double Bubble

This issue can occur two ways. One form of double bubble is the implant descends below the inferior border of the breast pocket. This creates a tight band at the base of the breast and the appearance of a bubble. The other form is when the breast tissue slides off the implant from above, giving the appearance of a Snoopy. Both forms of double bubble give the breast an unnatural appearance.

Other common issues can occur such as the implants moving too close together, uneven or rippling. An experienced surgeon can expertly correct such issues, giving patients beautifully natural and comfortable results.
