Breast Augmentation
What is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation surgery can improve both appearance and self-esteem in women who are unhappy with the size or shape of their breasts. Whether it’s due to disproportionate cup size in relation to body frame or sagging breasts following childbirth, Town and Country Plastic Surgeons is pleased to offer a comprehensive approach to breast augmentation in both Houston and Lake Jackson locations.
About Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation, also known as breast enhancement, is a surgical procedure that increases the size of a woman’s breasts. After pregnancy, the natural process of aging, and changes in weight, most women begin to notice that their breasts just aren’t as full or perky as they once were. By having a breast augmentation with or without a breast lift at Town and Country Plastic Surgeons Centers in Houston and Lake Jackson, women are not only able to regain a more youthful appearance in their silhouette, but they can experience a renewed sense of self-confidence and pride in the way they look.
Breast augmentation procedures are performed as an outpatient and only take between 1 and 2 hours to complete, depending upon whether or not a breast lift is necessary. For your surgery, our doctors will insert your chosen size and type of breast implants into a pocket that they will carefully create under the breast tissue or beneath the muscle. The type of implant chosen will depend on the desired results and will be determined at the preoperative visit.
There are a number of choices to make when it comes to undergoing breast augmentation. Consultation with Dr. Yarish or Dr. Bartlett in either the Houston or Lake Jackson location provides patients with guidance on what is possible and recommended for them based on their desired results, body frame, and current breast size.
For women who are unhappy with the size or shape of their breasts, breast augmentation can provide the solution. At Town and Country Plastic Surgeons, our doctors help women achieve the breasts they have always dreamed of, and the self-confidence they have long desired. Types of Implants
Patients in either Houston or Lake Jackson facilities can choose between silicone or saline breast implants. Patient preference often comes into play when deciding which type is best. Most patients now choose silicone over saline breast implants because of the more natural feel. It is important to know that both saline and silicone have a similar silicone shell.
Both silicone and saline breast implants are FDA-approved. Our doctors can place either type of breast implant above or below the chest muscle, depending on your specific needs, goals and anatomy.
Dr. Yarish and Dr. Bartlett will tell you what you need to know to prepare for surgery and will continue to treat you throughout the healing process in order to enhance the overall rejuvenation experience.

Breast Implant Size
Another important decision that you will make during your consultation is what size your breast implant will be. As we mentioned above, both silicone and saline breast implants can come in many different sizes.
When considering the size of your implants, it’s important to consider your unique body frame. Our goal is to fit an implant to your dimensions so that you will achieve beautiful and long lasting results. Dr. Yarish and Dr. Bartlett consider many factors when choosing a breast implant size:
- Height and weight
- Starting breast size
- Desired breast size
- Goal breast shape
- Need for a lift
- Possibility of future pregnancy and/or breastfeeding
Rest assured that our doctors will find a perfect implant for you and your body.
The Recovery Process for Breast Augmentation
Within two to four days after your surgery, you can go about your normal day without too many changes. You should stay home from work and avoid driving while you are on pain medications, but you’ll be able to shower and walk around before then. No heavy lifting for three to four weeks. As for physical exercise, you shouldn’t do anything too intense for two to four weeks after your surgery. This includes activities such as jogging, biking, weightlifting, and anything that puts too much strain on your arms and chest.

Before signing up for your breast augmentation, you might have some questions. Don’t worry — that’s normal! Here are answers to some of the most common questions we get about breast augmentation.
Can I Have a Baby After Having Breast Augmentation?
Many women in Houston and Lake Jackson believe the myth that they can’t have a healthy baby after having a breast augmentation. Luckily, that’s all it is: a myth. You can even safely breastfeed with your implants, as they will be placed beneath your breast muscle or gland.
What’s the Difference Between Saline and Silicone Implants?
Both saline and silicone are great choices for breast augmentation, but they offer slightly different results. Both implants have a silicone shell. With silicone implants, your breasts have a softer and more natural feel with a rounder shape. Saline implants, on the other hand, are slightly heavier. There are many different types, styles and sizes of breast implants. We will determine the type and size that is best for you together.
Will I have a Lot of Scars?
Scarring is inevitable for patients with breast augmentation in the Houston and Lake Jackson area. That being said, our doctors do everything they can to make the smallest scar possible. While there are different surgical approaches depending on the exact procedures you choose, our doctors make incisions in hard-to-see places, such as the crease underneath your breast.
What Can Houston Patients Expect After the Surgery?
After your breast augmentation, Houston and Lake Jackson patients can go home with some bandages over incisions and a special bra that holds the dressings in place. You might feel tightness and pressure in your chest, but your prescribed medications can help minimize discomfort. You will be wearing a sports bra for four to six weeks after surgery and then can ease back into your own bras.
Will I Be Able to Breastfeed After I Have a Breast Augmentation?
The short answer is yes because the augmentation doesn’t interrupt the milk ducts. However, if a mastopexy (breast lift) is performed at the same time, there may be limitations in the amount of milk that can get to the ducts.
Am I Too Old to Have a Breast Augmentation?
You’re never too old to have the body you want! Healthy women in their 60s or older who have decided they’d like to get back to the fuller, perkier breasts they once knew, should call and schedule a consultation to get the best recommendation for your specific needs and wants.
How Long Does Breast Augmentation Last?
Our doctors use only the highest quality silicone or saline implants, meaning your new look will last for years to come. Both implants are extremely durable after placement, however, you must remember these are not permanent devices. It is likely that at some point in your life they will need to be exchanged or removed. Usually, when this happens, it is because of patient preference. Your breasts have changed since your implants were placed or you no longer desire implants. As long as you have no issues with your implants, then nothing needs to be done. It is important to continue with yearly visits to ensure your implants are in good condition and no rupture is suspected. If your implants do happen to rupture, it is not likely to cause illness. However, if this happens it is recommended to exchange the devices.
When Can I Resume My Normal Exercise Routine After Having a Breast Augmentation?
Our doctors recommend that Houston and Lake Jackson patients avoid intense physical exercise for at least 4 weeks post-op. That means no weight lifting, running, cycling, or other intense cardio that could cause the breast implants to shift within the breast pocket. Remember, all patients heal at different rates, so let us officially clear you for exercise before resuming your normal routine.
