Causes OF Gynecomastia

When a young man goes through puberty, his body experiences hormonal changes. For some, these changes include a short term increase in the amount of estrogen in their body. This can result in transient increase in male breast tissue. For some, this persists.

Gynecomastia may also be seen in middle-aged men. It can be the result of diminished hormone levels with aging or because of certain medications including:

  • Antibiotics
  • Heart Medications
  • Chemotherapy
  • Heartburn Medicine
  • Antidepressants

Other reasons why men may develop gynecomastia include kidney disease, tumors, and an overactive thyroid.

Liposuction for Treating Gynecomastia

Liposuction technology has improved to the point where surgeons are able to use it to remove unwanted male breast fat. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthesia.

Dr. Yarish and Dr. Bartlett may make a small incision on each side of the chest, on the edge of the areola or inside the armpit. The incision will provide access to remove fat, glandular tissue, and sculpt your chest into something that looks masculine and natural with your body.

Tissue Excision For Treating Gynecomastia

In more extreme cases, gynecomastia may require the surgical removal of tissue. This procedure will allow our doctors to remove either tissue or excess skin that cannot be treated by liposuction alone. The length and placement of the incisions vary based on your surgical needs, but they are usually located around the edge of the areola.

Recovery Process

You will notice an improvement in the shape and appearance of your chest immediately. You will be sore for a few days and require some downtime. We will prescribe pain medication and may give you a compression garment to wear to help reduce swelling as you heal. You will have to follow postoperative restrictions for a few weeks to prevent problems healing. You should be able to return to work within a week with restrictions.

A Comprehensive Treatment Plan

Surgery is just one part of complete skin and body rejuvenation. We offer a comprehensive rejuvenation concept plan. The purpose of the plan is to prepare your body for surgery and provide you the tools you need to heal quickly after surgery.

If you are suffering from gynecomastia, male breast reduction may be the solution for you. It can make you feel more confident in the way you appear with long-lasting results.
