How Long Is The Recovery Time After Breast Lift Surgery

While women in the Houston area get better with age in many ways, it’s not always the case with the changes the body goes through during the aging process. Skin that is losing elasticity and volume is not always what we want to see when we look in the mirror, or when we’re trying to find the perfect dress for that big event. If you’re dealing with breasts that droop or sag due to age, pregnancy, weight fluctuations or genetics, Dr. Yarish can help you get back to your former body shape by performing a breast lift procedure. One of the most frequently asked questions Dr. Yarish receives from his patients when they consult with him about a breast lift is, “How long is the recovery time after a breast lift surgery?” And that’s a fair question – after all, women are the lifeblood of the family, and when they’re down, everyone is down. If this is something you’ve been questioning, keep reading to learn more about the breast lift procedure and what the recovery time looks like.

The Low-Down On A Breast Lift

As we mentioned earlier, breast sagging can be caused by many things including pregnancy, weight gain or weight loss, genetics and aging. The sad truth is, every Houston woman will experience some degree of breast sagging as they age, even if they’ve never had children, have no genetic predisposition, and have maintained a stable weight their entire lives.

A breast lift is specifically designed to reposition the breasts to a more natural position on the chest wall. During the procedure, Dr. Yarish will remove excess skin and tissue from the breasts, lift them to a more natural position, and reposition the nipple as needed. Keep in mind; a breast lift will not add volume to your breasts. If you desire to increase your breast size, Dr. Yarish recommends his patients have a breast augmentation at the same time as their breast lift.

Recovering From A Breast Lift

Recovering from a breast lift happens in stages, but to see final results, it can take up to 6 months. Be sure to follow the specific post-op instructions Dr. Yarish provides after your breast lift so you will recover more quickly and avoid complications. The time it takes to recover from a breast lift will depend on several things:

• Immediately following your breast lift procedure your breasts will be wrapped with compression garments. It is important that you do not remove these until Dr. Yarish clears you to do so. This is the beginning of your recovery process and removing your compression garments too early could affect your results.

• For the first couple of weeks following your procedure, you will experience some swelling and bruising, particularly near the incision sites. Dr. Yarish will provide his Houston patients with a detailed list of dos and don’ts to follow after surgery, including what medicine to take and when. It is important that his patients follow these post-op instructions to a “T” to avoid unneeded pain and avoid complications, and to ensure a smooth, timely recovery.

• During these first couple of weeks, Dr. Yarish recommends his Houston patients sleep on their side or back and avoid sleeping on their stomach. It is also important to avoid bathing or showering for several days post-op, or until Dr. Yarish clears you to do so. Though these may seem like silly requirements, by following them, you can avoid complications and infection.

• Houston women should know that it may take a month or more before all of their swelling and bruising subsides. To help this healing process along, avoid wearing bras with underwire for the first few months after your breast lift, Dr. Yarish will provide you with a surgical bra to wear when your compression garments are removed, and you should have one or two supportive sports bras on hand as extras. Be sure to wear one of these bras at all times for the first few months after your procedure.
